Mosin Nagant Sniper Project
Any Mosin Nagant experts out there?
I'm interested in building an "Enemy at the Gates" 91/30 sniper mock up. As historically close to Vasily Zaitsev's nagant as possible. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ly.Zaitsev.jpg I'd like to use a "PE"(early model?) style scope and mount. I believe that is the type in the picture above. A few questions: 1. Would it be better to build this on a round or hex receiver nagant? 2. Any sources for the parts? I found a couple places online that has repro PE scopes and mounts, but any other(cheaper) sources would be appreciated 3. When did the Russians introduce the "PU" style scopes? Any help or advice will be appreciated...:bear_thumb: |

The best thing I can do for you is direct you to www.gunboards.com . Find your way to the Mosin forum. It's just about the biggest Mosin forum on the face of the planet.

http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/9130sniper.htm I think it's operated by Tuco & Vic Thomas, 2 of the main guys at Gunboards. The webpage shown above says that the PU sniper entered service in 1942. There have been repro PE/PEM rifles made (years ago by InterOrdnance, or IO). I do NOT recommend IO as a reputable supplier of anything other than vague piles of feces. They CAN, however, be trusted to lie to you on the phone when describing a rifle allegedly in front of their beady eyes. "All matching, excellent condition" translates to mismatched, bent firing pin, severe finish wear. |
